CJ Carter
JMT Coach ; Lead Instructor

Instructor CJ Carter

Born in Cape Cod M.A. and quickly migrating westward, C.J. spent a majority of his formative years in Montana and the American West, introduced to the mountains and a love of skiing early only. Later re-introduced to the hills technically through MMA's Junior Mountaineering Team, his interest for the alpine world abounded and today he enjoys spending time exploring the hills at home and abroad. Awarded the Khumbu Climbing School Mentorship Award in 2008, he was provided the opportunity to assist in the climbing instruction of vocational high altitude porters and guides in the Nepal Himalaya. With additional skiing, climbing, and photographic travels to Alaska, Bolivia, Canada, Costa Rica, Indonesia, and Norway, C.J.'s enthusiasm for exploration is apparent. As an avid filmmaker and photographer he has documented MMA programs through short films and contunues to be involved in MMA media relations. As an instructor, he is stoked to get out , explore, and to continue learning . Currently CJ is an athlete/ambassador for Marmot Equipment. He is also a student at Montana State University-Bozeman studying Film and Human Geography. He steals to the hills whenever possible for a hard earned Dawn Patrol or weekend mission, typically with skis afoot. Future plans include cross-cultural and ethnographical film projects and a continued exploration of mountain ranges both near and afar.
